This renovation will costs the hotel approximately $20 million. They are commited to providing a quality stay for their guests.
In our January newsletter, we will provide the forms required for this reunion. We will also have them available for downloading from our website. Most of the information on this reunion can be review on the JWT website at http://www.dd760.org/ .
At this time, we have two tours we are preparing for the reunion. Currently we are in negociations with various sites and transportation companies. But here are a recap of what we are planning:
Tour 1 – Breakers and Shopping in Newport
This tour will begin with a 2-hour tour of the Breakers Mansion in Newport , RI. This mansion was built by Cornelius Vanderbilt in 1895. It has 125,339 sq ft with 70 rooms. After the tour, the bus will take our guest to the Newport waterfront where there are numerous shops, restaurants, and breweries. After several hours of walking the streets shopping and stopping for lunch or refreshments, the buses will return to the hotel in late afternoon. This tour is scheduled for Friday, October 2nd.
Tour 2 – Falls River, Massachusett
On Saturday morning, the buses will load for the 45 minutes trip to Falls River, MA. Here is a naval museum of actual ships who served in World War II. Included is the battleship, USS Massachusetts, the Gearing Class destroyer, USS Joseph P Kennedy, Jr. (850), the submarine USS Lionfish, several PT Boats and a Maritime Museum. It is our intention to have our memorial services aboard the Kennedy shortly after our arrival. Afterwards, the Kennedy as well as the other ships will be available for touring. The below decks of the Kennedy will be open for shipmates and their guests. We intend on providing lunch on this tour and departing in early afternoon. We ask all shipmates and guest attend this tour as it is part of our memorial services. As customary, we will wear our blue JWT shirts and hats for our fallen shipmates. We are looking at including a stop for lunch on this tour.
We will finalize all of the tours in our next newsletter in January 2020.
Memory of Fallen Shipmates….
We lost another shipmate due to a tragic accident. Tim Hibbard of Camarillo, CA died in a motorcycle accident with his nephew riding with him. Jim Kulp, Al, and Karen Telck attended a memorial service for Tim. Most of you will remember Tim from many of our reunions. He was always there making his rounds to each table in the hospitality room. If you know of any other shipmate who has passed, we ask that you notify us so we may pass along to others.
